vertical bicycles

For some reason, bicycles are mounted on several poles around Jack London Square.  Don't know why.  Biking culture is big in Oakland and every year bike lanes are added to our roadways.  JLS also hosts the annual Pedalfest.  So, I'm assuming a connection.

  1. Interesting sight. Bike path or bike rental shop near by?

  2. That's a great idea with the bikes on poles. We don't have any bike lanes here which is a pity because there is a growing number of bike enthusiasts seen in summer.

  3. Its an attention grabber for sure. Haven't seen one in holland although sometimes students hangs bicycles in a streetlight for fun. Not so funny for the owner.

  8. Public art requirements, perhaps? Here when there's a major project done, the city requires something put towards public art to be installed.

  11. Sometimes I wonder what would someone who "discovered" our ancient civilization think of our artifacts. This is one that would certainly defy a logical explanation!
