Z is for zheng

I'm going out on a limb here, but I think this is a traditional Chinese instrument called a zheng.  The guy playing it was engaged in a decidedly untraditional performance with his jazz quartet!  They sounded great at this summer's Chinatown street fair.  Linked to ABC Wednesday.

  3. A very different kind of instrument. I don't think I've seen it before.

  6. It is called 'GuZheng', also simply called zheng (箏, gu 古 means "ancient"); indeed it is a prominent musical instrument in the 'Qin period' around 220 - 250 BC (I think). Especially when you close your eyes and listen to a solo performance of some traditional music piece, some say it is therapeutic.

    1. Thanks for verifying the name. I tried to leave a comment on your blog but the link from your name doesn't permit it. Sorry.
